Paradise island Koh Ta Kiev

One of the best destinations so far!

Koh Ta Kiev island. Undiscovered paradise.

Leaving the school early in the morning with a girl from Germany made me thinking if I'm finally going to feel the sea.

About 4 hour drive from PP to Kampot in a small van designed for 10 people was another experience. That small van was loaded by 18 people! Good help us. It was very uncomfortable ride but we made it to Kampot.

After few minutes of wondering we found a restaurant to have lunch. But there was no time to spare. We had to find a bus to Otres village. It's a small village close to Sihanoukville city. Still not developed and ruined by tourists.

Sihanoukville city in distance.

At the bus station we were told that there are no buses only taxis. We hired a car for $5 each and set off to Otres. The taxi driver didn't want to take us to Otres so we left the taxi and decided to walk. It was about 6 kms away. No problem for us. It was down the hill.

When we passed 3 kms some local guy stopped and offered us a ride. Why not we said. Locals are just nice.

When we arrived my and Hannah's path splitted. She went to Koh Rong island and I to Koh Ta Kiev island.

But first I wanted to try the sea in Otres. Unfortunatelly the weather after my arrival was terrible. Not really hot and really windy. So I was just walking the beach.

At the end of the day it started to rain. It was big storm. And same weather continued whole next day so I extended my stay at my hostel called Boho. Recommend this one to you.

With that bad weather I was only inside the hostel or at the bar hanging out with other backpackers. Met people from Holland, UK, Australia, USA etc. Great time. We could play a pool or just pet the animals.

Next day the weather was the same. So I extended my stay again. I was getting upset about that because it was destoying my plan. So my daily routine was the same again the next day.

After 3 days of storm there were some consequences. Electricity and internet were down for few hours.

Anyway the morning was better. No rain and wind. So I risked it. Booked a place at Koh Ta Kiev island. Later they texted me they will send a boat for me so I had to return my already bought ticket on the beach. Then I had only one wish. I was wishing for better weather.

After those terrible days a miracle happened! The next 5 days the weather was like from a hollywood movie. Sun sun and sun.

The boat was leaving from a naval base so on the way there I saw some soldiers and vehicles and battleships which was cool.

About 40 mins later we entered the paradise. And it happened. Since I set a foot on that island the weather was perfect.

The only working and opened guesthouse on the island was Kactus Treehouse. So practically there has been 20 people on the island max. And just 8 of us as a guests. Before you get there you must go through a jungle for about 5 minutes.

It was really hidden treehouse. From the beach you could hardly spot it. When we arrived a manager Tena talked to us. This Croatian girl was very nice and helpful. She told us where to go and when and what to do.

Within a few minutes I talked to some guys who looked friendly. And they turned to be really cool people.

Say hi to Max, Cloud & James.

All 3 of them from Sacramento, USA. While James living now in Barcelona.

Mega down to earth people. I liked them a lot and we had a great time. From walking through the jungle to the other side of the island, swimming, kayaking and dining.

Speaking of food. I think it was one of the best in my life. It was prepared by 2 Khmer guys who used to cook for 5* hotels. #mouthgasm everytime.

The sea was perfect and beach as well. More importantly it was all for us. No tourists, no cars, no buildings... nothing. Just sea and jungle.

There are some links for videos from this amazing place.

It was pure chill and relax focused island.

You could swim, snorkel, read books, chill on the beach or at the treehouse bar, walk in the jungle and just enjoy the non-civilization rush and noise.

We did all of that and it was the most enjoyable place for me so far.

USA dudes left after 3 nights and I had one more night. Who would say it takes only 1 person to turn normal 1 km long beach into a nude beach. Till some couple came to swim as well. Haha.

Anyway I left the next day feeling completelly chilled and ready to next adventure which happened no long after.

I stayed again 1 more night at Boho hostel and bought a ticket to Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC). Before my bus came I decided to go to a beach again and say goodbye to Otres and Koh Ta Kiev island.

I bought the bus ticket at some random place from a nice lady. That place happened to be a restaurant at the same time as well. After saying goodbye I came 1 hour earlier to this place to wait for a pick up. Meanwhile this lady cooked for me a meal on the house. I was so happy. She was so nice and we talked a bit and her small children joined as well. Beautiful moment.

At this point I thought that nothing can surprise me. But then it happened again. Greatest adventure of my journey. This time on a bus to HCMC. But all about that later.
